Field Trails

why has field trails stop in tasmania years back you could have full field to trail in so that young pups could get some experence in feilds befor they race . (1) should there be at lease two field trails in front off steward befor a nomination is accepted .(2)or should there be feild trails after races only . no single trails at all. (3) when you race there is eight dogs to compete with. (4) i think that the racing clubs should make trail feilds only after races. an have to be book in (5) there should be juveniels ; then graded trails.

not enough people prepared to run with other people if you talk to the bigger trainers they may try and help you out with pups cheers chub.

I dont know what track you are talking about in tassie but in hobart on tuesday night and a sat morn we have FULL trials for unraced pups and ones for performed dogs, its just weather or not people want to be in them, but alot of trainers prefer to trial their dogs alone simply because noone wants their dogs injured in trials

Gippy 08-18-2010 04:27 PM

Totally the opp. in Vic !!! On race nights if you want to trial after the last its half fields only, unless you want to book & pay for a 4 dog trial just to go solo and at $20 it deters most!!

cheyenne 08-18-2010 06:09 PM

well at least your dog gets some experience with racing against other dogs before you have your first start an how much injury do you get from running with a 4 dog field a few sore spots. an it give them confidence to compete.

nickg 08-18-2010 08:44 PM

ive worked on the theory that young dogs need field experience before they race, you dont win races solo. ive seen many young dogs thrown into races without trialling with other dogs and cause alot of drama.

But saying that there is nothing worse then putting a young dog in a half field and see a leading trainer boxing what you no will be a jet rocket next to you

cheyenne 08-19-2010 10:23 AM

well nickg there nothing different putting your dog in race an leading trainer put a jet rocket next to you. the different is our pups are getting expeirence in feilds .

nickg 08-19-2010 02:37 PM

the difference is your don't no what your trialling against, yes a race is a race but do you like trialling young dogs against proven race dogs from the top kennels?

I seen it at warragul a few months ago Darren Mac trialled his imports, one guy in the trial had an unraced pup... do you think the experience of getting beaten 20lens was good for it's confidence??

I guess it falls back on the trainer, few times I've been drawn in half field trials against top trainers and have asked what there trialling, most will be honest if you tell them you only have a young pup, quiet a few times we pulled the dog out the half field and went solo for another week

as i said I believe you need field experience before you race, but there is a big diffrence between that and losing confidence from getting a flogging by proven RAF

cheyenne 08-19-2010 05:26 PM

well i agree it dosent do the dog confidents any good be beaten 20l perhaps the clubs could have half fields or full feilds for un race pups only .that wouldent be hard to organise.

yeah i agree there, but how do you police it? alot of people trial other peoples dogs, do you take there word that its un raced? if you start bringing papers to the track then more people will need to be employed trial night to police it, trial tickets go up and there is still people complaining

its a hard one

Box 1 08-20-2010 01:32 AM

so what if unraced pup's are gettin beatin by 20L by one of the top trainers dogs, its race condition's an chances are you might meet it in a race anyway, the point is experiance for your dog,and if it happens that someone has a dog 20L quicker than your's well i'd be questioning your own dog and how good it really is to be beatin by 20L....are you gunna scratch your dog on race night just cause there's a quicker dog in the field...lol:rolleyes:

penny 08-20-2010 11:18 AM

so you would put a pup 17mths old in a half field trial with damek.eagle eye and sultans swing ? yeh id like to see that.

well dohhh you missed the bit where i said that, i was talking about not knowing what your trialling with, here in vic we dont have unraced trials so there is no way of knowing

ill give an example

trialled a young pup at geelong one day 17 months unraced, was showing enough abilty to think he would win a few

trialled agaisnt a top line trainer, asked what he had response was " won a couple of races interstate thats all" thought ohh well our boy has shown enough.

beaten 12lens and the trainer goes to his mate, just a couple of city races

dog turned out to be hanifys impact

if we new at the time there is no way we would of trialled

chub 08-21-2010 07:39 AM

box 1 there are some who would and have put performed dogs in unraced pups before so how do we know that all the time they are unraced cheers chub
