Run into coops at goulburn saturday couldnt stay to watch his dog run won at 5/1 i might add coops said should be ok at kilcoyne dog goes to barnsley on wed for final check before going dont care about times box education and chasing is what im after times will come when real trials happen just hope he breaks in ok bit of a pussy watched trials at goulburn then took him to thirlmeer sunday didnt seem over enthused only indication i get is when in his run will chase his ball and teddy all day if you keep throwing it so lets hope kilcoyne teaches him some manners thanks again guys&dolls billy bones.

Every dog is different and as long as they are not pushed too hard then 12 months is fine to break in, I've just had some done that were finished being broken a week before they turned 13 months!! Put them away for 8 weeks and then start them up again and see what they have!!

BILLYBONES 04-27-2011 12:56 PM

Gippy??

When you say put them away 8 weeks then start then up do you meen "a" put back on farm or just give him a break back on lead and general excercise "b" when you say start back up do you meen hand slipping behind lure and work up to boxes sorry to sound stupid but i must do this right cheers billy bones

Gippy 04-27-2011 03:33 PM

I prefer back on the lead and give them a chance to get over any niggly little injuries or soreness!! Worm out, hydrobath, groom, a bit of free galloping if you can and then yes option "B"!! I'd refrain from putting a dog back on the farm after breaking as you have had it educated and switched to racing mode so IMO I'd rather keep it that way!! I'm not saying that this is gospel, just my humble opinion!!

BILLYBONES 04-27-2011 05:02 PM

humble opinion

gippy your humble opinion will do me just fine thanks heaps feel as i am realy going in right direction dog is still a pussy gave him his first kill yesterday all he did was lick its bum and ears heaven forbid but it must have stired up something on his walk around the lake this afternoon he chased the ducks and birds hasnt done that before. so untill he gets back from kilcoyne i will stop anoying everyone will let you all know if he breaks in ok thanks heaps billy bones

I will be taking my pup Malcom (The pup I bought of my precious Lilly 12 mths ago.) to the track tomorrow to give him his first run since being broken in and put on lead for 8 weeks.
I have given him 1 trial after being broken in and have a time. Now I want to see if he can beat that time 8 weeks later.
I have worked him on lead and given him his head in a smallish paddock a few times, so I think he will be ok to run the 270 mtrs.
He's a big buggar 35kg and a crazy bastard. I'll give him a finishon but where do I find something big enough for him. lol

Malcolm

Coops lets know what time he ran prior and after maybe you could put a camel on the lure ho ho billy bones

firstdog 04-30-2011 04:17 PM

Umm..where do I find a rabbit? capable of running fast?

coops 05-01-2011 08:06 AM

Well Malcom had his trial and he completely severed a tenden in one of his front toes. Looks like it's gonna come off.

If it comes off, how long to it take to heal?

BTW. Snake (Super Raptor) ran 3rd last Saturday at Goulburn and me other dog Cindy (Bella Tae Dawn) won.:D

Snake then won at Goulburn yesterday by 5.1/2 lths.:D

Malcom is under the knife as we speak. (6pm) Dr Linda Corney is doing it.
Will be picking him up in the morning 9am.
Dr Corney was amazed at the great condition Malcom was in and she praised my efforts in looking after him. :D I will now be taking SNAKE to her in the morning to get another praise.:D But at the same time I need her to have a look at his hock as he pulled up limping after the Goulburn run.
I am a brilliant muscle man, but there are some things that I'm not sure of, so I get a second opinion from someone else. In this case Dr Corney.
I had to scratch him from Wednesday's meeting at Nowra where he would have been a certainty if he had started.:D
Cindy (Bella Tae Dawn) is racing at Dapto thursday night and she is also a certainty.:D

PS:I would just like to add."Sh*t I'm good.":D

OH! forgot to tell you. My lilly has given me the flick again. This time she caught me talking to another sheila and spat the dummy. I told her that it was me mum I was talking to. She didn't believe me, saying. " Then how come she looks like she is 20 yrs old?" ( In sign talk.) I told her my old man got married again and that was his new missus and she is now my mum. She just yelled more obsenties at me and told me to p1ss off. (In sign talk)
Oh well it's back to the grovelling bit for me. I hate it when I grovell, but if I don't she'll only come looking for me and start on me again for not grovelling.

Good lord I put up with a lot these days.:)

Hiya Nick me old fruit gum.
Hey mate, you wouldn't beleive the things I've been up to lately. Bloody ell mate, Lilly is now calling me a STALKER on facebook. I think she's really piss with me this time.

While your there mate I need to get some info about me dog cramping just lately. I don't know where it came from, I haven't changed anything with her routine. The other dogs seem to be ok. Got any advise for me mate. Lilly has beed advising me in the past but things have changed, so it looks like you've got the job.

BTW Is our mate Gippy still around?

nickg 05-03-2011 09:23 AM

buscopan is the best for cramps just don't use it close to race day otherwise you'll make chubs positive swab thread ;)

also 5mil of rapid acid netrualiser after a race and 2 days before in there dinner

coops 05-03-2011 02:51 PM

Thanks Nick. I have always used an acid nutrualiser after a race but never used it before a race. Must give that a go.
As far as the buscopan goes, I'll give that one a miss.
I have heard that giving the dog some pasta in it's meal the night before and again for breakfast will help too.
But like I said earlier, she has just these past couple of runs she has cramped at the end of her races. I haven't change any of her training routine.

Just picked up Malcom from the vets after he had his toe removed. poor little buggar can't walk on it although it's wrapped up in heaps of padding.I'll change his bandages next wednesday and I'll take the stitches out the following Wednesday. There is not much more i can do for the poor little buggar except keep him warm and comfortable.
Snake has a twisted hock but not serious. He'll have to have a few weeks off with treatment. I use caster oil to massage the affected areas twice a day. Seems to get the best results with that.

I'm here pal!!!

Gippy me old mate, how they hangin. Nice to see you guys are giving important advise to these new greyhound people.
They can't go wrong with you two.

For all you new greyhound people these two blokes Nickg and gippy helped me when I first started to train greyhounds a litle over 3 years ago on these forums. Since then I have become a legend.lol My skills have become world renowned for the ease in which to train greyhounds. My two mates just gave me the start I needed and away I went.

Hey boys, you did a good job with me.

They even got me a sheila on these forums too. Her name is LILLY and she is my pride and joy. We are having a bit of a tiff at the moment coz she thinks that I'm being unfaithfull. I've told her that I only have eyes for her. They get a bit blurry now and again and I've been known to grab the wrong sheila from time to time, but it's me eyes not being able to focus properly. She gets very jealous and we have a blue. I let her win coz she is loverly.
Kissy, kissy my little cream puff.
