Flakey Skin

Hey i have noticed that Tony has a lot of flakey skin under his black coat, it has been there since i got him from the GAP kennels.

Just wondering why his skin would be so flakey?

And is there anyway to help remove the skin?

It has been looking a little better the last few days but i thought id ask.

Thanks in advance.

just dry skin, if you dont know what he was being fed before its probably due to that

chuck a teaspoon of cod liver oil over the top of his food twice a week and see how that goes.

most of dogs external problems are traced to an internal cause. As for removing the skin just give him a nice bath and a scrub should take some of it off.

It's a real pain because it shows up more on black dogs than any other coloured dogs. :(

while its still there you will never be able to brush it out, hopefully if he responds well to the oil, itll be problem solved.

So cod liver oil is the best thing for this issue?

How many times a week should i add it to his meals? And how much?

Thanks

read my first post again Morgan

and the essential oils should do alot for this issue, cant guarantee anything but once you have tried this and seen where it gets you, can reassess the issue.

let us know how it goes.

Brushing will only make the matter worse as the brush pulls up more dead skin.

Bottle of sprint oil to feed nightly with as myanimall said 1 teaspoon of cod liver oil twice a week should have the coat looking spot on - But of course it doesnt happen overnight - Give it a good 2-3 weeks.

A bath every 4-5 days with anti doggy dandruff shampoo should do wanders.

Yeah the brushing makes it worse initially although it is clearing all the dead skin away, im going to get him some cod liver oil today and some anti dandruff shampoo and give him a bath tomorrow after work.
