Thumbs up Fred Basset Goes Green

Fred Basset has traded his muzzle for a new green collar.

Not just any green collar mind you…one of the special green collars that symbolizes graduation through the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP).

Made famous by his owners, comedy duo Hamish & Andy, Australia’s most popular canine is the 2,700th greyhound to graduate through the Greyhound Adoption Program.

More than 350 retired greyhounds are adopted into Victorian families through GAP each year and Fred Basset is now set to embark on the next phase of his career – promoting GAP and, more specifically, promoting greyhounds as pets.

Not only was Fred Basset a star on the racetrack – he raised more than $13,000 in prize money for the Royal Childen’s Hospital – but he was a megastar off it.

Some of his highlights include riding in a limousine with supermodel Megan Gale, appearing on Channel Nine’s Talk To The Animals and being photographed with countless celebrities including Dave Hughes, Ian “Dicko” Dickson, champion racehorse Miss Finland and the cast members of Home & Away and Neighbours.

However, arguably his biggest highlight was drawing fans to racetracks across Australia in 2006 when on tour with Hamish & Andy. So who better to present Fred with his new green collar than the pair that made him famous?
