best advice i could give is get your hands on a copy of the book "Care of the Racing Greyhound" by greyhound vet Des Fegan, he has copys at his clinic im not sure of his number, but i do no grv have copys as well so you can call them, i think its around $70

fyi I did look into syndicates and nothing about them drew my interest. Why the hell would i want to stick my money at a dog and i have no personal attachment to. I am not interested in making money, its strictly a hobby and I want to have a crack at. And if for whatever reason my dog doesnt make the track, I still have a beatiful loving pet. So whats the harm in this? After all its better having this attitude than 7/8ths of the rest of the owners/trainers that put their dogs down quicker than you can shake a stick at. Most of these folks turnover huge numbers of animals and I think its bullshit.
I have started reading this forum to gain some more valuable information from others folks and most here have been alot of help. so i dont need some asshole like you telling me to crawl before i walk.

WHIPPEE i dont think he meant it in such a bad way, as i pointed out we all started somewhere!!! and i agree with you on the dog issue, quite disgusts me actually mate! dont matter mate cos one day we'll be the ones dishing out all the info to the "kids" on how to get group 1 champions ;););) :D

maybe he didnt mean it in such a way, but i have had a lot of people tell me similar and to be quite honest i am tired of hearing it. I am doing what i want to do and dont need people telling me, I should syndicate, get some to rear the pup, ect. ect.

btw i was at angle park the other night and spoke to a lady who had four hounds and raises them from her living room. she says she gets wins too. That was all i needed to hear

7/8ths of the rest of the owners/trainers??? Gee I hope you're not one of the animal libbers that thinks 90% of greyhound owner/trainers don't care about their dogs and put them down if not fast enough??

That isn't simply true. I would say that 90% are decent owner/trainers who care about their dogs' welfare, so that leaves 10% horrible people who are in it for the money and also breeding as many pups as they can just to find one elusive champ and shoot the rest.

I also don't believe in high turnover, and I take in other people's unwanted slow/nonchasing dogs as well, I never buy greyhounds as I think there are already too many around that needs a patient trainer like me lol
Part of the reason I still train the same 4 racedogs that I've had for the past 3 years, is that if I breed a litter, and keep any pups, I can't breed another litter until the pups have retired from racing and goes to the nice little yards for broodies (also a main reason why I like to keep and train bitches instead of dogs, as I would hate to have to put the dogs down when they finished racing, if I couldn't find a home for them), as at least with bitches I can breed with them eventually, at least the ones that I think will make it as a brood.

I have two retired bitches inside the house with me right now, one has had a litter that have just finished breaking in; and one is just a pet, I wouldn't breed with her even though she won races as she isn't commerically viable to be able to sell pups.

Turnover isn't high for me lol I bring in a new dog to train maybe every 3 years! Unless of course I build more kennels (currently in middle of building 4 extra kennels! whoo hoo)


Many of the owners/trainers I know and speak to, absolutely love their dogs and many have a couple or few oldies pottering about their yards.

maybe you should stop asking the questions if your not gonna like the answers whippee, not having a go at you, its that so many people have different ways with there dogs and i guess we have our own aswell, I LIKE how the lady who has winners out of the living room :) gives ya some confidence doesnt it mate :D
