How to Stop Greyhound Sitting in Box
what is the best way to stop the dog from sitting in the box ??
|
Make it wanna jump out the front :D
Maybe first couple of times feed it in the box. Personally i do not like feeding dogs in the boxes but in your case the dog is sitting so this will make the dog stand up in there, as they do when eating. If he/she is a mad killer, grab a ''stir up'' and have it inside the box at the grill. Make sure you have it tied up so the dog doesnt pull it to the back of the box then pull it out makig the dog jump out. Do that twice then next time wave the stir up outside the box by the grill, then go for a run having someone open the lids so the dog runs straight for the stir up. Do that once or twice a week then the day before you trial next - and see how it goes. Always worked a treat with my kiddos - but when ive used this method its been for dogs turning in the boxes, not for the sitters. |
thanls will ttry it

Chook mate, do you know where there is a straight trial track other than Appin around the Camden area. Some one told me there is but I know not where. I want to give the dog some box practise like you have discussed with Madlee?
coops |
Not too sure where it is, but i think its 650 Cawdor Road, Camden.
May have to ask around but i know its owned by Stuart Dickinson, and i think thats the address but not 100% Its apparently like Appin so ive heard but the lure goes on a rail, rather than on a cable in the middle of the track. Heard good things about it but never been there. |
I thought you might have known where it was, thats why I asked you coz you seem to know everything. lol.
Thanks mate, see you tomorrow. BTW: I'll be the one with the black dog. coops |
Everything? Not too much actually lol. But when i do know and can help i love doing so :D
Have sent a message to a mate who trials there often to find out the address. Ill be the one @ Bulli cheering on the other black dog lol Unless one of the first starters have some talent i reckon my boy Makita should go well. Good draw for him, and he is dropping in class from Richmond (against Gun Sort) and Nowra (against Trendy Habit, Foxhill Bella, etc) |

Cheers mate. "GO THE BLACK DOGS." coops |
Coops, saw your dog was scr. Guessing its cause he gained a start Richmond?
If not hope he is ok! |
Nice to see your dog got up, congradulations mate on a good win.
Had to scratch my dog as he injured his hip on Monday night. he'll be out for a few weeks. coops |
bugger about the hip injury hope he heals up well
|
Chook mate, It will take about three weeks to mend, then I can take him off the lead.
Nasty those hip injuries. It takes so long to fix. I was just thinking again Chook mate, If footballers and athletes can take pain killers while participating in their sport and it's all legal and they say it's not inhancing their performance, then why can't my dog have the same? Seems to me that it would help the dog from being distressed. It's not like other drugs that harm the dog and make him feel so good that he bursts his heart trying too much. Just a thought Chook. coops |
Nice win again Chook. Seems like you have got a handy dog there mate.
coops |
The dosage difference would make the differ in the pain killer thought coops, 1 tablet in a 60kg person to one of a 30kg dog....
Plus they differ in how quickly they absorb the substance. Dogs absorb things slower (if oral), so would last longer in the system. Thanks regarding the Makka Makka Hoi winning. He is a real little legend of a dog. Bringing a lot of fun. Off to Dapto Friday having a trial then will be in the week after in the Auction Heats. Cant wait. Go the Kamikaze! Should have the 2 littermates in @ Bulli next week. They trialled this arvo - the dog went 22.86, bitch 23.42 but she had excuses. |
