Arwon Dies at 33

1978 Melbourne cup win Arwon (NZ) was put to sleep last Friday at the age of 33. George Hanlon said the horse had been in reasonable health but had lost a lot of condition and was finding it difficult to get around. The decision was made to put him down last Friday. He was the oldest living Melbourne Cup winner.

Yes he was the oldest living by a fair bit. I wonder who it is now. An interesting fact about the horse: he was named after the NSW town of Nowra - backwards.

I also believe I read somehwere years ago that in NZ he raced under a different name, Flash Guy or something..
