Starting Blackbook- Melb. Spring Carnival

Hi Guys,
Just wondering, if it's allowable, about starting a Blackbook thread on horses that you think are worth watching leading into Melbourne's major Group races up to the Melbourne Cup. I have a couple that I am following at the moment, and will give updates if you think the idea has any merits.
Maybe we can come up with a few winners.....
As a new member to RacingForum your comments would be appreciated. If you think this a waste of time please say so.

Cheers Jinkster

G'day Jinkster, after it's run on the weekend Maldivian has to go in the black book in my opinion. He looks as though he's over his injuries from the autumn and the way he fought it out to the line (although not having a very good first up record) shows he's coming back to his best.

Good idea for a thread.

Yep great idea for a thread should really help members pick a few winners.

jinkster 08-19-2008 12:48 AM

Thought of MALDIVIAN but yet to be proven over 2000m . Still worth watching, should be in 1600-1800m next start although in 2u seems to drop off a bit.
One I have been watching SIRMIONE. better form this year so far with his worst run only 4L off winner compared to 16L & 11L last year. Similar to Maldivian yet to be proven over 2100m but breeding shows should be capable of staying distance.

Cheers Jinkster

Sounds like a grand idea. Maldivian is a definate blackbooker after saturdays run. Look out for the hussler over a greater distance too, he didnt seem to have that explosive turn of foot but instead looked more like a stayer, he was still winding up at the post. Light fantastic is going to go far, looked like he was under a lot of pressure in the straight but newitt lit the fuse and he responded well. The better horse on the day won. Yet to be convinced that fantastic will stay though.

Hey jinkster, sounds like a fanastic idea. I would love to hear your thoughts about these horses and im sure many others would too - it sounds like you know your horses well.

By the way everyone just to add to the list, Kibbutz; forget his run in the Liston last Saturday, was very unlucky but even so ran it like a true stayer... In my eyes he still poses a huge spring threat in the staying events so watch out for him!

Hi Guys,
Good to see some posts coming in, and also good to see somebody else watching David Hayes Kibbutz good FU hitout. Will now like to see over 1800m on soft track.
Hayes has Largo Lad at Sandown-Lakeside tomorrow plus Freedman has entered Jabal Tarik, will be watching scratching to get an idea as to what they are up to.
For 'The Greatest' - Mark Kavanagh, trainer of third-placed Maldivian, was delighted with the six-year-old’s performance saying that “he’s getting back to the Maldivian we all know”. A good sign !!

Cheers Jinkster

Was a very good run and paying $4.30!

Largo Lad ... Encosta De Lago... Start was a bit dusty, last at 700m, blocked for run at 600m but when he got a bit of clear air it was hands & heels to the line and still gapping them. Needs 1600-1800m next run.

Wyong - Today - Race 1
RHONE DELTA (2005) 3yo b g
Encosta De Lago (AUS) - Camargue (AUS) (Air De France (USA))
Jockey Nikolic, Danny Trainer Conners, C E
Having 1st start....
Noted Nikolic rode Fav. Amazing Dane last start ( Gosford-3rd-1.8L) but has taken ride on Rhone Delta.

Nothing to do with Melb. blackbook but may be interesting to watch Largo Lads brother run 1st up.

Keep an eye on Kaphero today, its a class field with some very good sprinters even without Miss Andretti and his run at wfa on this slow track will be interesting.

Kaphero and bank robber were my bets of the day. Couldnt go past kaphero. Such a consistent horse over the 1000 with the majority of his runs all around the 58 second mark. Lucky secret did well to chase him but withered in the straight. Looks like he is back on track after those bleeding incidents.

hussler2912 08-26-2008 09:23 PM

Yes, I think so long as Kaphero gets a good start as he so often does he can beat any horse in the country over 1000m at MV

Add Pompei ruler to this list, i think hes going to be a darkhorse this spring.

Riva San after unlucky second yesterday beaten a nose. I was very upset Jeff Lloyd had her so far back during the early stages of the race. Was a great run at a wet randwick yesterday and will following her through the spring. Another great run yesterday getting beaten would have to be Hot Danish and of course Gallant Tess great run in the epsom. cheers dougie :)

hussler2912 10-05-2008 07:17 PM

Littorio what a legend I had him in my Running double with WH but I really didnt think he would beat him, although I knew if the Hussler was off Littorio would be his main challenger.
Obviously a very impressive win over the 2000m and theyll keep the blinkers on him, that probably made the difference yesterday... He's now fav for the Melbourne Cup which I personally disagree with, although his weight will play a huge part. Also you gotta feel for Gai with Tuesday Joy out for the rest of the spring.

Wonder how many people will be backing Weekend Hussler after his recent run?
