Losing by a Nose

How many others here always seem to lose races by a nose?

I had two races last night in which i lost be a few centimetres, my pick is always infront then decides he will slow down.

Does he know ive bet on him? :)

Anyone have this happen to them often? I think this happens to me once every 4-5 races.

haha had that the other night, he led the whole way and would have won had it been a 514m race not 515. Can really give ya the shits

Yeah it really pisses me off. lol

Happened 2 times in 2 races for me, first was harness led the whole way then lost by a nose or less looked like a dead heat to me.

Then the dogs i had picked 2 outisders for the quinella at $20 i studied the race for awhile so was pretty confident if the favourite had some trouble at the start they would take it, they lead the whole race then got pipped. Waited for the photofinish results and didnt go my way. Would have been a good quinella price as well. (both dogs were 13-15/1)

Yeah i think im the greatest punter for choosing 2nds when i put the bet on to win!! Then when i put ew on it comes 4th!! Not fun.

I always seem to back the ones who look like they have the race won and the jockey stops riding them, only to be run down on the post.

This has happened to me once in my short life - emirates stakes day 2007, last race, i was on Muzdaher at 11-1 and he led the whole way with C.Williams, except for the last 2cm of course ad so he lost in a bloody photo... but i had it each way and it got me back about $3.50 for the place so it wasnt too bad.

Atleast you got something back :)

Reduces the anger a bit.

Either that or I tip a place and it comes 3rd in a NTD race ;)

I never go e/w with scratchings, only for the win or quin. Trifecta's never pay much either.

Im not sure how old all you guys are, but my dad who is almost 60 sometimes tells me how trifectas pay crap all these days compared to what they used to.

grot 08-29-2008 08:12 AM

I think it's because of flexi betting. Prior to this, the minimum you could have on a trifecta was a 50 cent unit for 50%. Now you can get down to say 100 combinations for a 1% return, and this leads to more people playing them, but also many more people having the correct combination.

Also companies want more $$$ these days so im guessing a larger chunk of the pool is taken for them.

Utility won a race during the Spring Carnival at $51. I had Utility as a standout funnily enough in a First 4 bet as a bit of fun. The bet cost me roughly $50 and unfortunately I had 3rd and 4th in the wrong order, missing out on 15k by a small margin.

Was just one of those days, and to make matters worse, I didn't back Utility.

That would have tipped me off. lol

Must have been angry afterward.

I believe with photo finishes you remember the ones you get beat in and forget the ones that go your way.

hussler2912 02-09-2009 06:34 PM

Yeah probably true mate. Maybe if I thought about it for a while I'd think of a few that had gone my way but Might and Power in the Cup of 97 was the last winning photo finish I can remember and thats not a joke lol.

Maybe a few less sheep back in the old days. Or it might be that we are better informed.
