Picking a Cup Winner
what methods do you use to try and pick the Melbourne Cup winner every year? Do you just have a ping at a dart board or do you have other ways? Personally apart from doing the form and what have you I take a running double on the cup and the race before it (which is usually race 7) and I put 2 runners in race 7 and i then have 5 in the cup, so if one of the two I include in the 1st leg wins I am well on the way and that is only a $10 bet. I also usually back something each-way separately just incase.

On the Melbourne Cup i usually have an each way bet usually $50 e/w on an outsider paying 10-30 that i feel could provide an upset.
I never bet on the favourite as there are way too many very good horses in the race. |
Between 10-30 I like Nom Du Jeu (currently at $12.) Drew barrier 15 and came from 3rd last around the turn in the Caulfield Cup. Is improving as he's getting more distance, looked like he had more to offer in the Caulfield Cup, drops 1.5kg from his Caulfield Cup run to the Melbourne Cup, but is 3200 a little more than he is asking for? If its not he'll be around in the Melbourne Cup finish. I think I might be on him if a strong front runner is in it because he'll enjoy that. Best chance outside that in my opinion is Red Ruler (currently at $35.)
