Mantra lad
How about Mantra Lad trialling 39.97 at the Meadows over the 600. What a run. Of course there might be a difference in the track between a trial morning and race day but I certainly know of very good dogs (I mean very good) who can trial only 34.50. Mantra is a mighty dog and although I know the process would have been carried out properly, I find it difficult to understand how he did not make the final 3 in the Victorian Greyhound of the Year Award. Mantra could "pick up Regal Thyme and carry him", there is a significant difference in class between the two dogs. I hope he stays sound. This is one stayer who could very well succeed at stud and of course due to the fact that he is also extremely competitive against the best sprinters.

Sorry I should have said 33.97 in the my new thread about Mantra Lad and his run at The Meadows over 600.
|
Yutha mate, my goat Jimmy ran that time over 600mm yesterday. Now thats quick even for him.
Wasn't it mantra Lad who got mongreled by another dog not that long ago? coops |
Coops I think you are thinking of Miagi (trained by Warren Harper on the Central Coast of NSW) who was attacked by a stray mut as dog and trainer were leaving the vets. This happened quite some time ago (18 months ?????). Mantra Lad has been out injured, with a dewclaw related problem (bone I think?/?).
|
By the way Coops, if you want to arrange a match race between Mantra and Jimmy over 600 on a flat surface, I would be interested in putting putting $50,000 on Mantra at even money. However, I fear that Jimmy may use his head in more ways than one in taking advantage at the start.

Go the Thyme's
Hi guys,
Just on your comments about Regal Thyme. He really should be given the top gun (what a joke this has not been resolved yet, it's really a no brainer. For GRV to not have it sorted before the announcement of the GOTY is a disgrace but that's another story). If he ends up getting the top gun that means that he would have won two group 1's & one group 3 for the year. No other VIC dog, not even El Galo won two group 1's (if loses top gun). To put it in perspective the equivalent races in horse racing is winning the Guineas & Cox Plate so I think he well & truly deserves his spot in the final 3. I admit that on their day, dogs like El Galo & Mantra Lad are faster dogs than Regal Thyme but he performed in some big races when it mattered. Although I don't like his chances in the Temlee, I would love to see Regal Thyme take it out Cheers |
Yeah, whats the go with this swab? Its either + or -!!!!! Really is a bit of a circus and embarrassing for the sport! I can't imagine that there have been stewards and the like full time on this matter since the + was returned!! It would be costing the industry an absolute fortune in wages, lab tests, legal, etc.

Yutha mate, I've started Jimmy in training this morning. I gave him some extra oats this morning.Tomorrow I'll trial him over the 650mm and see how he goes. So watch out mate, Jimmy is coming.
Like The Thyme mate, you say that you admit that on their day, dogs like El Galo and Mantra Lad are faster dogs than Regal Thyme. "Mate they are fast all the time." coops coops |
Gippy, although I did know that there was a deferment granted, I was also wondering when the case was going to be heard. On 14 January the GRV granted a deferment until 17 February, that is, the case will be re-visited next Tuesday.
Coops, has Jimmy been in work? The only reason I ask is that I thought a 650 might be a bit much first up, especially in that the match-race would be over only 600. However, maybe this is a reflection of your supreme confidence. |
Getting a bit worried are ya mate.
Hey Yutha, I am the proud owner of one of them Ultrasonic massage machines. I bought it this morning and I showed the dog it and He freaked and bolted back in his kennel. Can't wait to try it on him. Hope he don't bite me. coops |
Hey Noel are ya there mate. Haven't eard from ya in a while.
Hey mate, do you ave racing goats at you joint and if ya do, how much training do ya give em? coops |
Goodonya Coops. Ronnie Bowen, legendary greyhound vet, once located near the Crossroads which I am sure you will know well, reckoned that the Ultrasonics only tickled. Ronnie was a "needle them" man. However, the Irwins for example, certainly made or at least recommended making plenty of use of the ultrasonic. However, that is now ancient history and the ultrasonic has been well used for many decades and I am sure you will also put it to good use. Re Jimmy, yes I think you are right, I am a bit worried about him. I haven't phoned Greg Jose the trainer of Mantra Lad as yet and I am wondering whether there is still time for me to pull-out of this deal. By the way has Sinka the Drinka's injury prompted the purchase of the ultrasonic. How is he going and what is the latest prognosis.

Like the Thyme, I have to admit to a couple of weeks ago or whatever, seeing the other side of the story of including Regal Thyme in the "final 3", that is, after initially thinking "how the hell is he in and Mantra is out". Nevertheless, although I can relate to what you are saying about the Topgun situation, the facts as they presently stand, are that Regal Thyme ran 2nd in the Topgun even thought it could change in the near future. I still feel that Mantra is terribly unlucky not to have been there with a Group One National Distance Championship, the Victorian Final of the National Distance Championship, a Shootout victory in an elite field of 4 and not insignificantly, equalling the 725 track record at The Meadows. I have no personal connection with Mantra, I just like him as a dog. I do have a personal connection with one of the other nominees but that greyhound, although a wonderful racer, was balloted out early on.

Yeah mate, I got for to fix his injuries.
I took him for a blood count on tuesday and got the results back this morning. Blood count was good, but he has a very bad thyroid problem. He's got hypothyroidism, mild normocytic normochromic aneama and hyperchlesterolemia, whatever that all means. He's on medication for all that and with a few sore spots thats gotta be fixed, and if he's not pregnant should be ready to hit the tracks in about 6 weeks. coops |
Yeh Coops, I have to admit to also thinking "whatever all of that means" but I did Google "hypothyroidism". Whilst looking at the human symptoms I was initially wondering whether Sinka had any of those symptoms and was hoping that resolving the problem might help him find a length or two. However, my thinking soon changed to "hold on some of this sounds like me": dry course scaling skin, tendancy to feel depressed, muscle weakness, slow speech and thinking, dull facial expression, reduced libido, droopy eyelids, etc. However, tendancy for constipation definitely does not apply to me, we all need to be good at something.
|
Coops, as a matter of interest only, I suppose he is on some sort of hormone treatment for the hypothyroidism and if so did the vet say anything about how long it might stay in the system and therefore show up in a swab. I suppose it is not impossible that to treat such a condition properly he might have to stay on the medication. As I said, I am just interested.
|
Yutha, the vet put him on OROXINE 200mg one tablet in the morning and one in the evening and he will be on them for the rest of his days. As far as swabing is concernd is quite safe to use and has no illegal substances.
The reason I took him for the blood count is because of skin being scaley, his coat dullness and clumps of hair falling out, his on going muscle soreness and he was not empting out properly IE: constipation. He also lost his happy excitable nature. So something was wrong and I had to find out what it was. I just hope I can fix him. coops |
I am going to read to my wife the description you have phrased in your most recent Post, with a view to seeing if she thinks you are referring to me, that is, apart from the obvious exception. These posts have got a long way from Mantra Lad but do you know what Coops, I think I have in the last week or so missed the opportunity to get my hands on something that might turn out to be worthy of racing against Mantra Lad. We will see but there is no way I could take him (the 'misses' of course being the problem). Such an opportunity will not come up again.
|
Mate you've got to put your foot down. if you want something bad enough, go and get it, life will be a heaps better in the long run. Trust me mate, it works. When you've been married for 45 years like me, who care what the missus thinks or does. Me boss, she jane. Got to go mate she just walked in the door.
Now getting back to Mantra Lad. I am looking for 2 dogs like him, then I'm set for life. coops |
Yes, Coops, any way I look at it there is only one person to blame and that is me.
|
Mantra Lad put one of his bad ones in last night did not seem to try real hard after sqeezed out with about 200+ to go

mantra lad from box 5 should of been $3 was never going to get the favors last night and really from box 5 he needed every little thing to go his own way. lay lay lay all the way and i cleaned up...pity perth is so far behind, not alot of betfair action laying him... pure octane, token prince??? im seeing a little conection pure octane will throw super fast dogs, but plenty will have pea hearts |
I see your thinking with Mantra Lad Nickg. He won some good races from box 5 last year but from memory all of those were in staying races. In all of his recent wins in Perth where he did run great times he was slow out on both occasions he needed to be real lucky to get a clear run up on the fence last Saturday night. I also thought he was worth laying at those very short odds. He appeared to give it away when he avoided being squeezed into the rail and show nothing in the straight. Assuming no injury, surely he had the petrol to pass a dog or two but no he did nothin. BUT if connections want to get rid of him he can have my bed I will sleep on the floor. The little woman can please herself. I dont know much about Vintage Octane except that he has won a bit of money and is owned by one or more well known people.
