Default Chicka morris

I mentioned in a recent Hobart Thousand post the legendary "Charlie Chicka" Morris. That was primarily in the context of his visits to Tasmania particularly for the Hobart Thousand. I noticed in the publication I used earlier that in August 1969, Chicka trained his 5,400th winner when Mount Hall Boy won at Bulli. Chicka was then 63 and had been training greyhounds for 39 years. Off the top of my head that is more than a 140 winner a year average and over 39 years, that is not too bad. I am sure Chicka had a few dogs in work but it would be nothing at all like the Bates, Thompson, McDonalds, Brittons, etc of today. 5,400 in those days was almost unbelievable, I know I could hardly believe it at the time. I have no idea what happened to him and how many winners he finished up training.
