Horror Run on the Punt
Just this last week I've had a horror run on the punt. I take the 'shorts' and a roughie pops up, not once but multiple times ! I bet 'wide' and the shorts get up - no profit. I'm guessing we all have this happen from time to time ?
I'll get through, but I find when this happens it pays to have a week's break, to recharge and re focus. Now you may think I'm mad when I say this, or you may agree with me .... Generally these horror stretches occur around a full moon. I notice one coming soon so best beware. Actually it was on the 13th. |
Yep i get this all the time, i always make small bets to start off with as i find its either my day or its not so if i am getting a few winners ill increase my bets if not then i walk away not losing too much.

I put all of my bets on as soon as scratchings come through. That way I'm not tempted to change my bet or stop betting if I hit a good or a bad run during the day.

I like to watch the market until the last few seconds before placing my bets checkout the different tote prices, on big races such as group 1's etc i use the same method. |
You like to take a weeks break every now and then? I must be a weak gambler then because I never bet more than once a fortnight unless its the Spring Carnival. Actually quite funny you ask this because on my really good days for some reason always the first bet I take is a loser.

Being able to keep your nerve when betting is a key to being a successful punter, as soon as you are backing horses not because you think they are a good bets but because it will get you your money back you are in trouble. Your selections will not always win and you will have bad trots, but if you can hold your never and are a good judge you will find yourself winning consistently. Not knowing how to handle a losing run makes many potential good punters average.

This is me at the moment. Luckily I've only been betting relitavely small and not so much over the past few weeks so not much damage done, although I've pretty much broken even on Saturdays. I get so close to backing a horse but I decide not to then it wins, thats something that I'm finding is happening a lot to me lately, very annoying!

It's a matter of just hanging in there and don't let it change your thinking. I starting betting for the Autumn on Jan 31, was having a bad trot and had one bet at MV on Feb 14. I went against my top choice due to a short price and backed my next pick at $13, which got beaten by my top pick in a photo.
Was I peeved? Hell no! I may have missed a $2.30 winner which I was prepared to accept $2.60 for, but I stuck to my guns and just missed a good payout. I realised then through that loser that I was on the right track and have broken through into the black. |
Yes I love the Valley Friday nights though, did very well last Friday, hope that continues. I'll post tips tomorrow afternoon probably, going on initial thoughts I'll have 3 or 4 tips. Get on em!
