coops 03-10-2010 10:32 PM

There is a very good reason for her racing a non-tab meeting.

Im sure you do. But if the goal is to enter her in a TAB meet as soon as she wins her NON tab maiden, to me that just doesnt make sense why that would be the plan, because if she isnt good enough for a maiden TAB, gl in a g5

coops 03-10-2010 10:44 PM

Is that what you do with your dogs?

Another question for you. Why do they have non-tab meetings?

I dont have that much experience in training, actually I would say on a spectrum of 1-10, I would be towards the lower end of experience at 2 or 3 only which makes my opinion virtually useless.

With that being said, I am a very logical guy.

If I have a dog which I believe currently is not good enough for TAB class, then naturally I will enter it in a non-tab meeting, like healsville for instance.

If it was to win a race there, I would not just go and enter it straight into a TAB meeting. The reason I entered it in a non-TAB meeting in the first place is because as a trainer I believe she is suited to that class of dog at the current time. This opinion does not change overnight just because she wins a maiden at a non-tab.

However, if i had a dog that could be competitive and win a maiden at a TAB meeting, then I would definetly enter it for that for 2 reasons. One, more prize money, because that is what you race for, and also, when she wins her maiden, the jump up in class to a TAB G5 wont be as steep as going from a NON-TAB win.

Now if I am wrong and a non-tab maiden win does not really count and you can still race at a TAB maiden, then I am sorry.

I was under the assumption these meetings were created to let some of the lesser skilled dogs win some money and races for their owners and trainers as well as get other dogs fit.
i.e Alot of star dogs get fit running at Healsville for a few runs back from a spell before racing in town. However, you do not see these types racing there maidens there.

Im not trying to be a prick, but I am just trying to understand the logic of if you believe you have a dog that can win a maiden in TAB class, and your goal is to race in a g5 tab race as soon as it wins its maiden, why you would go to a non-tab maiden race, unless you are going for an easy kill and want a guaranteed G5 start the following week and are happy to sacrifice $500 in the process.

=)

coops 03-10-2010 11:44 PM

I can't recall me saying anywhere that the dog can win at a TAB meeting. I have said that she is not good enough yet to race at a TAB meeting.
If you go back to page 15 I do state that in a post.
So again. I race the dog at a non-tab meeting because she is not good enough yet for a TAB meeting.
At the moment she is racing at a distance of 279mtrs. There is no TAB meeting where they run that distance. Do I put her in a distance to qualify for a TAB nomination and probably ruin her for life or do I slowly build her up to that distance and hopefully get the times required to possibly win a TAB meeting. She's got a long way to go to get there and she may never get there. If she doesn't I can't say I didn't try. But I'm not going to ruin her for the sake of more dollars. I'll be happy if she wins tomorrow, but there is no garrentee on that. There are 7 other dog trainers hoping for that glory too.
A maiden race is the hardest race of them all.
I'll say it once more. She is just an ordinary dog.

Good luck Surfin Bird

YUTHAPINABOY 03-11-2010 02:15 PM

Hey Coops, your low key, conservative approach, makes me think of you as the "Bart Cummings" of dog racing and maybe that makes Morgan Dato Chin Tan. Maybe some of the Racingforum readers want you to get a bit of the "Tommy Smith" going, "she'll win for sure, they WON'T beat her". The only problem is that she won't have a jockey for you to blame, Tommy was pretty good at that and Bart is not too bad either. As I write the race may have already been run for all I know but I will say "good luck" anyway.

Morgan 03-11-2010 02:44 PM

Bad news with Bess fell in the first race, lets hope all is okay.

Hoepfully Lady can win for Bess.

Poizun 03-11-2010 02:51 PM

My bad coops if your intentions werent to enter her str8 into a TAB race at Nowra once she broke her duck through the non-tabs. I just took Morgans comment as the plan of attack for you two..

Morgan 03-11-2010 04:23 PM

Another 2nd for Surfin Bird :(

Blitzed the rest of the field again though

http://www.thedogs.com.au/Racing/Rac...?raceId=955196

Hopefully she draws an inside box next time.

coops 03-11-2010 06:31 PM

Dear diary 11/3/10. Well they have both raced. Bess fell on the first corner. she jumped with them, they all converged on the first corner at the same time, then I saw Bess go 20 feet in air, over the fence and landed in the MacDonalds drive thru, ordered a Happy meal, jumped back over the fence, ripped the shit of the lure, ran to catching pen. Check her out and there is nothing major wrong with her. Will check her again in the morning.

Was happy with Lady's run even though she didn't win.

PS: Nick and Gippy, you were right about thw wieght bit. She wieghed in at the same wieght as last week. 23.2. Cheers guys.

coops 03-11-2010 07:55 PM

Hey if you can get the results of lady's race on The Dogs.com have a look at the photo finish. She's really having a go.

Dougie 03-11-2010 10:02 PM

Well Done again Coops and Morgan. Anyway maybe inside draw next week for her and one place higher. Good Luck. cheers Dougie :)

Morgan 03-12-2010 08:34 AM

Yep and going off what coops told me she was very unlucky not to have won, jumping last picking up to be running second on the turn then checking off the back of the leader and losing a few lengths to finish within a length.

Just need to draw one of the inside boxes. Fingers crossed for next race.

Box 2 and inparticular box 8 are disgraceful. Greenie to run last... Over the park has a solid 23.08 qualie win here and Chief Enforcer is the query runner who is first starter. But based on current form to date, Surfin Bird is a clear top pick from the good draw...

1-6-4-2 are my numbers

P.S. Holy shit, she is a midget ..23.3kgs..wowzerss ... She better be springloaded from boxes!! :P

YUTHAPINABOY 03-24-2010 09:19 AM

Yes this is very small particularly for these days but of course Coops had already advised us that she was small a while back when he was referring to a variation in weight. I was surprised at the time but immediately thought, "heavens she's ALMOST as small as the unraced bitch in which I have a share". Nevertheless, I am sure we all agree for more reasons than one that she develops into a bitch that is very slick out of those boxes and hits the ground running. A couple of very small bitches in recent years who won a lot of races are the litter sisters, Freckles and Gibbo's Girl (deceased). I am sure you guys who follow the dogs much studiously than me, will be aware of others.

Gippy 03-24-2010 09:41 AM

Well done lads!!! Form of 2,2,1 you can't complain with that!!

Morgan 03-24-2010 12:11 PM

Well actually she has been missing the start in her races, think each race so far she has lost 2-3 lengths due to her box manners but has been able to make up the lost distance.

Hopefully she will learn to jump better.

And would you look at that. She was sent out a $2.10fav.

Unfortunately, she mistimed her jump from box rise and it cost her any chance of winning the race with a turn within meters of the start.

The big positive though with the dog was it kept chasing and trying her heart out. Most dogs throw it in there, but she didn't.

Verdict : Dog to follow.

I did video on it a few times...to me it looked like she jumped with them if not head in front, and he 2 dog crowded her and outside boxes got the fly...she also got slightly dragged from behind, you have to look closely but just a little drag of the back legs mid race. Probably give it back 5 lengths.rough estimate as I didnt do whole field etc..which would have had her right up there. And if I get time ill do the race further, but looking at it a few times the 5 dog went enormous, maybe one to follow
